GOVERNMENT SPENDING

State and local government spending has caused taxes in Wisconsin to grow faster than personal incomes and Governor Doyle's 2007-2009 budget increases spending 8.5 percent over the biennium, higher than the rate of inflation.

Wisconsin Club for Growth supports efforts to freeze property taxes and limit growth in spending to the taxpayers ability to pay and:

  • Encouraging the consolidation of local government units to improve effectiveness and reduce costs.

  • Restoring balanced budgeting through adherence to generally accepted accounting principles.

  • Requiring that school spending, bonding, and other local government referenda coincide with regularly scheduled elections, to ensure that the maximum number of taxpayers have a say in the decisions.
