Talking CowsState Senate Democrats just passed a budget with over $18 billion dollars in new taxes. The biggest chunk would come right out of our pay checks to fund a government run health care plan. The plan covers nearly everyone --- even those who don't work and aren't Wisconsin residents. Even Governor Doyle realizes the Senate Democrats plan is unrealistic.

Wisconsin is the 7th highest taxed state in the nation and 10% above the national average. The Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance says state residents paid an average of more than $500 per person last year in mostly small, "hidden" federal and state taxes that are often misunderstood or go virtually unnoticed. "Forgotten Taxes," a new WISTAX report, examines these, as well as telecommunications, utility, real estate, and other small taxes that together generated more than $500 million in 2006. The latest budget proposals in Madison seek to to raise taxes and fees by over $1.7 billion, the biggest tax increase in Wisconsin history. Everything from taxes on hospitals, nursing home beds, college applications, dry cleaning, music downloads, cigarettes, hunting and fishing licenses. Ask your legislator to join 29 colleagues in the Wisconsin Legislature who have taken the Taxpayer Protection Pledge not to raise taxes. |
